Railway ExhibitionHELENSBURGH Heritage Trust has organised an exhibition to mark the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the railway in Helensburgh.

It is being held in the library in West King Street and is now open to the public free of charge. It includes a section of the well known model of Craigendoran Station and Pier constructed by members of the Helensburgh Modellers Club, as well as various railway artifacts and a large collection of photographs.

The exhibition was officially opened at a private view on Saturday by Andrew Dow, former director of the Railway Museum at York, who lent the painting used on the poster. It was the work of C.Hamilton Ellis around 1890, and shows a train on its way to Helensburgh just west of Cardross. The artist gave the picture to Mr Dow's father.

Trust chairman Stewart welcomed the guests and introduced Mr Dow, who officially declared the exhibition open. Among the guests were Provost Billy Petrie and Councillors Viv Dance and Alan Reay.

The Library's opening hours are as follows: Mondays 1300-2000; Tuesdays and Wednesdays 0930-1300 and 1400-1700; Thursdays 1300-2000; Fridays 1300-1700; Saturdays 0930-1300 and 1400-1700. Sundays closed.

We would like to apologise for this website being offline for a couple of weeks. This was as a result of cyber-vandalism. The site is now being rebuilt, and we have taken the opportunity to give it a new, updated design.

This is very much work in progress, as — like the site itself — all the administration software has been updated, so the webmaster and the editor are learning new methods while re-uploading the 150 pages or so which were on the previous site. So please be patient!

MEMBERS of Helensburgh Heritage Trust travelled to Luss on Wednesday evening to visit the village's Pilgrimage Centre. The tour of the centre was conducted by the minister, the Rev Dane Sherard.
