THE HERITAGE TRUST records with deep regret the sudden death of long-serving director, trustee and membership secretary Jenny Sanders.

Mrs Sanders, who was 85 and very well known in the town, collapsed and died while swimming on a family holiday to France.

Trust chairman the Rev David Clark said: "This was such sad news. Jenny was ever active and ever interested, and such a valued member of the Trust, both for her admin and for her knowledge. With her passing another direct link with 'old Helensburgh' goes too."

A member of the Burgess family who ran a painting and decorating firm in the burgh for many years, she was a former pupil and teacher at Hermitage School and active member of Helensburgh Parish Church.

Her many interests included membership of Helensburgh and District Art Club and travel, and in her youth she took part in the annual Ne'erday Swim at Helensburgh pier.

Jenny’s funeral service, conducted by Mr Clark, was held on Friday August 11 at a packed Helensburgh Parish Church, followed by a private commital service at Cardross Crematorium.
