HELENSBURGH Heritage Trust sponsored a series of nine ‘Toys That Go’ Workshops hosted by Strathclyde University’s Science and Technology Forum for 240 first year pupils at Hermitage Academy during May 2010.

Dr-Douglas-Brown-h_s-wThe Trust contributed £330, about a third of the cost of the series, which was organised by Dr Douglas Brown and Ann Morrow from the university and Principal Teacher of Guidance Isabel Cullen.

Dr Brown (pictured) — an expert on John Logie Baird who has twice spoken at Trust meetings — said: “The events ran very smoothly and were a huge success. Every student was successful in completing an electrically-powered ‘Off-Roader’ model car which they retained.

“Feedback from the pupils and the school is very encouraging, to the extent that the Forum is exploring the possibility of making this an annual event for all future Hermitage first years.”

The Academy and the Forum are now seeking alternative sources of funding for the future.
