FILM STAR Deborah Kerr spent the first four years of her life with her parents in Helensburgh, but was born in Glasgow — and her birthplace has been marked with a blue plaque.

Deborah KerrShe was born Deborah Jane Trimmer in a maternity home in the west end on September 30 1921. At that time it was St James Terrace, but today it is 7 Ruskin Terrace, home of Mark and Laura Dunn.

Lord Provost Philip Braat unveiled the plaque on what would have been her 100th birthday while residents from the building where the star was born looked on.

Deborah's daughter Mrs Francesca Shrapnel said: "I have been reliably informed that often when she was asked about being a typical English rose, she would reply, tongue in cheek, that she was actually a Scottish Thistle.

"I’m sure she would be delighted to be receiving this honour from the country of her birth."
