AN exhibition documenting the history of Scouting in and around Helensburgh has gone on display in the town.
The exhibition, which chronicles the period between 1909 and 2022, opened recently at the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre.
The project, initiated by Helensburgh Heritage Trust and supported by volunteers from Scouting, traces the growth and evolution of the movement in Helensburgh.
A range of artifacts are on display, such as original Scout hats, climbing gear, a model campsite, and an old Tilley lamp.
The items are roughly arranged under three headings: the local organisation, activities, and international.
The items illustrate the changes to Scouting, but also the things that have proved timeless.
Photographs dating as far back as 1911 show local Scouts in action, as well as a display of more than 400 photos showing Scouting activities through the years.
Barbara MacDonald, district commissioner, said: “We welcome the public to come along to see the exhibition and share in our enthusiasm for Scouting and the impact this has on the young people in Helensburgh.”
It can be seen in the Civic Centre from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 12pm. These hours will be extended once the centre’s café reopens.
On Monday mornings after 10am, a member of the Scouting team should be available to chat about the exhibition.
