Researching the Vikings

THE STORY of a research project into Vengeful Vikings and restless rustlers on the isthmus between Arrochar and Tarbet was described to a packed Helensburgh Heritage Trust meeting at Helensburgh Tennis Club on Wednesday February 24.

In a talk entitled ‘Trowels and Tea Towels’, Fiona Jackson and Sue Furness spoke about the ongoing Hidden Heritage project begun in January 2013 and supported by Arrochar and Tarbet Community Development Trust.

Amazing life of 'Don Roberto'

THE amazing story of ‘Don Roberto’, who lived his later years at Ardoch, Cardross, was told to members of Helensburgh Heritage Trust on January 27 2016.

He was a Scottish politician, writer, journalist and adventurer — and a man of contradictions and paradoxes.

MEMBERS of Helensburgh Heritage Trust travelled to the plush Loch Lomond Golf Club on Wednesday November 25 to hear about Helensburgh’s founder, Sir James Colquhoun.

Colourful history of McGruers

HIGHLIGHTS from the story of the world-famous McGruer of Clynder boatbuilding business fascinated members of Helensburgh Heritage Trust at their October meeting in Helensburgh Tennis Club.

The guest speaker was the firm’s principal surveyor, Fraser Noble, whose lavishly illustrated talk was entitled ‘My family has been building boats since the 11th Century’.

Winter Open Meetings

comet4The first Open Meeting of the 2016-17 winter season will be on Wednesday September 28 at 7.30pm at Helensburgh Civic Centre, East Clyde Street, with other meetings in October, November, January, February and March.
